Average review score:

I have read the 1964 version of this book and loved it.
I am a 16 year old male. I found this book at a friend's house and started reading it. At the time I wasn't interested in astronomy, and I just wanted something to read. I soon realized how much I was enjoying what I was reading. Since then I have become very involved in astronomy and hope to someday become one professionally. This book has certainly changed my life.

Fantasy : the golden age of fantastic illustration
Published in Unknown Binding by Watson-Guptill ()
Author: Brigid Peppin
Average review score:

Wonderful Collection of Art
As an artist and collector of books (such as Brian Frouds "Faeries") I have found this book a joy to own.
The illustrations are beautiful and the text informative.
It makes me want to own the original story-books the experts are taken from!
This book features work by such artists as: Aubrey Beardsley, William Holman Hunt, John Everett Millais, Arthur Rackham and Kay Nielsen.
In Particular people interested in the Pre-Raphaelite movement would enjoy this book.
Quite a number of the illustrations are in colour.
The "Notes on Illustrators" at the back of the book gives a list of all the (known) books each artist has ever illustrated.
Useful indeed if you have a favourite artist you wish to track the works of.
I find this book one of my more prized books.
I would recommend it to any-one into art, illustration, Pre-Raphaelite style art, or old story books.

Great!
My pre-schooler loves this book. He wants me to read it over and over. The story is just right for beginning-to-be-read-to kids, and there are lots of good pictures, too.

The First Golden Age of Rocketry: Congreve and Hale Rockets of the Nineteenth Century
Published in Hardcover by Smithsonian Institution Press (July, 1990)
Author: Frank H. Winter
Average review score:

When Hale and Congreve rockets RULED!
This book discusses the development of powder war rockets during the 18th and 19th centuries and their use. A curious footnote to military history, the problems involved with such rockets and the increasing lethality and accuracy of conventional artillery overshadowed them and led to the termination of their use . . . until 20th Century technology improved rocketry. A great book!

Five Golden Retrievers
Published in Cards by Avanti Press, Inc. (October, 2000)
Average review score:

beautiful card
I may be partial to the beauty of the breed; but in my opinion, this card is the most beautiful of the Twelve "Dog" Days of Christmas cards. It may be the shining light, and how it shows off the puppies so well; or simply the youthful innocence of these adorable babies. This is the only one of the twelve cards that simply lists the breed, rather than have the dogs perform somehow. Maybe that is why I like it so much! Dogs are as wonderful as they need to be, simply by being themselves.

Floating Lanterns and Golden Shrines: Celebrating Japanese Festivals
Published in Hardcover by Pacific View Pr (May, 2000)
Authors: Rena Krasno and Toru Sugita
Average review score:

Entertaining and informative for all age groups.
Floating Lanterns & Golden Shrines: Celebrating Japanese Festivals is brimming with detailed and charming illustrations by Toru Sugita of seven Japanese celebrations. Author Rena Krasno begins with a discussion of the origins of the Japanese people and the creation myth of Amaterasu, the Sun Goddess. The first festival is Setsubun (the day winter ends) and links ideas of Japan's indigenous religion, Shinto, with ideas and images borrowed from China. Traditional Japanese family holidays follow: Obon (remembering one's ancestors); Kodomon Hi (Children's Day); Hina Matsuri (Dolls Festival); Oshogatsu (New Years); Sapporo Snow Festival; and the Cherry Blossom Festival (honoring the heritage of more than 848,000 Japanese Americans in the United States. Key information about arts and daily life are interspersed throughout and include: ikebana, taiko, lacquerware, bonsai, origami, hiku, traditional Japanese sports and martial arts, and how Japanese names are formed. Included are recipes, games and other activities as well. The text provides historical background as part of retelling four folktales for a more intimate sense of Japanese culture. The Japanese language is explained as common, relevant phrases are introduced. Floating Lanterns & Golden Shrines is especially recommended for ages 8 to 13, but will be found entertaining and informative by all age groups.

Florence: The Golden Age 1138-1737
Published in Paperback by University of California Press (March, 1998)
Author: Gene Adam Brucker
Average review score:

Outstanding book-folio
Penned by an eminent historian, this book is superb! Very striking is Brucker's unique narrative style. He makes the readers think as if the events happened only yesterday. I strongly recommend his other works as well: You will feel enlightened. No other historian can capture the cultural richness of Florence with such delightful charm. I guarantee you'll fall in love with the city, her citizens, and this historian, Gene Adam Brucker.
